Coming of Age Around the World

In High Holidays—part of the 2009/2010 Season—Billy Roman struggles with preparations for his Bar Mitzvah, a Jewish tradition in which a 13-year-old Jewish boy becomes a man. Every culture and country has a different set of standards for what constitutes adulthood.

  1. I had my Bar Mitzvah about forty years ago. It was a big deal with a lot of family members and guests. I spent hours every day after school getting ready for that one ceremony because I was so nervous to talk in front of all those people! I still hate public speaking, but at least that was the last time I had to speak in Hebrew! This play sounds like it could be really funny, if it's anything like my own experience.
